Stocks up or down?

Was watching the Dow this morning.  My interpretation is a little different than Yahoo’s:   To me, negatives are translated as “down”.  Now, I know it can be a timing thing, but only briefly for a moment or two were the stocks ever up in the “first few minutes of trade”.
