The Death of Wii?

posted by Moonage

Ten years ago, a headline like this would have been the death of any trendy toy:

Nintendo’s Wii Becoming Big Hit in Nursing Homes Nationwide

Now, it was never because there weren’t enough elderly people willing to play games in their retirement years.  It was purely because they marketed to kids exclusively.  Nintendo has never really followed the crowd when it comes to marketing their stuff.  And, they’re obviously not now.  The result?  The kinda silly Wii is outselling Xbox 360 and PS3.

Now, think about this as well.  In ten years or so, there will be more elderly retirees than there are teens.  And, for a while, it will be y a long-shot.  Which crowd would you want to be in with then?  I think Nintendo’s really on to something.

Tetris

posted by Moonage

When I was a kid, Pong was introduced to the world as the first video game.  Now, the object two Pong was you had to blocks on the opposite side of your tv screen with a solid line down the middle.  You then pretended that the blocks were tennis players, the line was the net, and this little block that bounced back and forth was the ball.  That was graphics in the late 70’s.  As silly as it sounds now, it was pretty amazing then.  Very shortly after arcade games finally started appearing that took graphics a little farther.  In 1985 Tetris was introduced to the world and full blown addictions to video games were starting to appear in arcades all over the world.  Things advanced to the point, in 20 years, that now video games appear everywhere, including your cell phone.

In the spirit of the 20th anniversary of Tetris, here it is.  No quarters needed.
