OK, first of all, I have to get this out of the way since it HAS to be done:
Now let’s get to the nitty gritty. A lot has been made of the Oscars snubbing Farrah during their tribute of deceased actors. This is the Oscars defense:
“It is the single most troubling element of the Oscar show every year, because more people die each year than can possibly be included in that segment. You are dropping people who the public knows. It’s just not comfortable.”
I’m calling BS on Bruce. Here’s a simple list of those honored by the duration of the careers via IMDB.com in Hollywood:

Can’t argue she didn’t do enough. So what is it? You’ve got a couple of people on the list who are so obscure I can’t even find a bio on them telling me their date of birth. I’ve got a couple at the very bottom who IMDB doesn’t even know who they are. This is ridiculous. Could it be something as simple as the fact Farrah is of Lebanese descent? Nah, surely Hollywood’s not that shallow. In their defense, they snubbed Bea Arthur, the first uber-liberal balls-to-the-wall Jewish single lead female.
It’s been suggested, and I totally agree, that from now on the Oscars recognize everyone. If it’s been a particularly bad year, as 2009 was, then speed it up and make it longer. I can assure them I would have appreciated seeing more of Farrah and a lot less of almost every single person on that list. Her career might not have been as exciting as the worldly Millard Kaufman or Howard Zieff, but her last few years and her very visible struggle with cancer was something people will never forget.
And, believe it or not, cancer is something most people take a lot more seriously than Hollywood.
