Mainstream media going tabloid

Mrs. Moon and I both have both been irritated, and sometimes amused at what passes for news these days.  Foxnews has gotten predictably trashy.  Just a sampling from today’s headlines:

• Cheerleading Coach Fired After Posing for Playboy 
• Porn Stars and Puppies ( No, it’s not what you think.  At least, that’s not the story. )
• 10 Cuddly Cougars ( They’re not talking about cats. )
• Bubble Baths in Tiaras ( You don’t see Jennifer Love Hewitt taking a bubble bath. )
• Alleged Mistress Speaks ( That’s Mel Gibson’s mistress. It’s nice that she has the ability to talk. Speaking is not why she’s in the news tho. )

Not to be outdone, MSNBC came out with this salvo today:

7 women reveal how they dared to step outside their sexual boundaries - It’s a simple story about everyday women and their toys, group sex, lesbian sex, anal sex, infidelity, vaginal laser surgery ( which was accompanied with this pic:

( this is not good, I prefer the research that says the closest thing to anti-aging is semen. )

Last and least, sex in airplanes.

None of these women I had ever heard of before.  They weren’t famous before this.  I doubt they’ll be famous after this.  They only used first names ( even the ad did that ).  But, nothing they did is stuff that would shock much of anyone.

Now, I am struggling to find any news content in any of this stuff.  The closest thing to information is this part:

In fact, “pushing sexual boundaries can create excitement that fuels other aspects of your life,” says Julie Holland, M.D., assistant professor of psychiatry at New York University School of Medicine in New York City.

I think Julie is referring to the “glow”.  I don’t think pushing boundaries creates excitement that fuels other aspects of your life.  I think just being very satisfied with what you’re doing fuels other aspects of your life.  It just puts a little extra oomph in your step.  Now, before anyone gets too analytical on me, I don’t think my observation is much of a breakthrough.  Therefore, I don’t think this is much of a story.

The internet is just filled to the brim with porn.  There is every imaginable kind of porn you can think of on it.  There are some places where porn is not supposed to be.  Major media news is one of those places.  I’d prefer to get my news from news sites and my porn from porn sites.  It’s hard enough to take major media seriously any more as it is.  Resorting to tabloid headlines just makes it that much worse.  And, other than the teasers, other sites who don’t have to worry about getting the news right can outdo Fox and MSNBC in ways these seven women could never imagine.
