City of Ember

Following the disaster of trying to see City of Ember on Friday, Moonlet and I tried again Sunday.  This is what we got:

City of Ember

That really is about as exciting as 99% of the movie got.  The action scene at the end lasts about ten seconds.  This folks, is NOT what you want to take a fidgety five year old boy to see.  He asked questions and changed seats all through the movie trying to keep himself occupied while the movie just drug on from one boring scene to the next.  It has a lot of adult issues and fairly complicated plot angles.  This just doesn’t do anything for a pre-teen, and needless to say, if the kid’s not happy at a kid movie, neither is the parent.

Skip it.  Take your chances on High School Musical 3, it’s better.  As an adult, you won’t enjoy either to any degree.  However, at least with the latter, the kid will be occupied for 90 minutes or so which to me is worth the matinee ticket price.

I liked this one.  I really did.  Some movies move well from child to adult, this is not one of those.  This is purely child stuff.  It's light-hearted, pleasant, fun.  It's creative, and a littl...

I actually went and saw this by myself. It was an interesting premise and the whole design of the city and everything was great but I have to agree, it was fairly boring. One question I had after the movie is that if they were in an underground cavern of some sort and the with river flowing downhill and the stairs at the end not being that high, how could they end up right on top of the city and why hadnt anyone ever noticed the hole directly above the city? How is it that when it rained outside the people down below never noticed? Hmmmm

There were a lot of things you had to ignore for it to make sense. The one that bugged me most was for 200 years some people had tried all these crazy ways to get out, but when it was time to leave, the kids basically just walked out. Sure, they had to follow the map and all, but who couldn’t have done that? Then, when they decided to let the others know that it was safe to leave, they just dropped a rock in the hole. Well, the city was covered. How did it get through the top? And, if their rock made it down there just fine, why hadn’t other stuff, like birds and animals done the same? As far as a kids movie goes, it was hard to sit through, the boy had too many questions and not enough action to keep him occupied. As far as an adult movie, the sci-fi aspects were awful. If it’s an action movie, there wasn’t enough of it. It just wasn’t a very well planned movie. The concept was cool, but they didn’t work enough on the movie itself.
