World AIDS Day

posted by Moonage

Anyone else notice what the acronym for World AIDS Day is?

If you haven’t, then maybe WAD can help, the World Association of Detectives.

I’m not EVEN going to go into why this is so wrong it’s funny.

Among the headlines telling us of kids dieing in car crashes, airplane crashes, teachers in Sudan being punished for naming teddy bears after Muhammed, and other very important bad news, was this headline:

Report: ‘Bisexual’ MTV Star Tila Tequila Is Straight

Now, given all the bad news, I felt compelled to check this story out for two reasons.   First of all, I had no clue who Tila Tequila is.  Second, why does anyone care whether she’s straight or not?  This is what I found.  First of all, this is Tila Tequla:

That part’s a good start.  The second part is unusually complicated.  It seems MTV wanted a story about a bisexual young girl looking for love in all the wrong places.  However, Tila has a steady man in her life and refuses to look for love in a babe.  This is giving MTV a headache so they are apparently canceling her show.  Her publicist assures everyone that Tila is quite bisexual and there is no need to be concerned.

I think it’s all kinda moot.  I think MTV’s probably canceling her show because people like me had never even heard of her before.  The plot line is amazingly thin and borders on something you’d see online as opposed to being produced for tv.  That just doesn’t last too long usually.

However, this all did give me a good reason to look at something pleasant instead of reading the real news.  And that’s good enough for me.

You can do the family as Elves as well, but it wouldn’t fit on the screen here.

Lullaby

posted by Moonage

This is one of my all time favorite videos by one of my all time favorite bands.  Horribly under-appreciated until they pop’d things up a little, they were the perfect example of what heroin did to a person’s mind.  This is Robert Smith’s interpretation of a soothing song meant to put children to sleep.  :)

One of the most absolute strokes of brilliance in rock writing ever conceived. EVER.

Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium

posted by Moonage

OK, I went to this movie with no expectations.  Now, I knew Dustin Hoffman and Natalie Portman were in it.  However, I knew both of them are prone to doing cheesy movies well below their talent levels.  This movie was one of those.  First of all, when going to see Natalie Portman, I fully expect to see something like this every single time:

However, what I got was this:

What was even more disturbing was Hoffman kept talking with this bizarre lisp that was just plain annyoing.  Even if I tried to substitute visions of Closer during the movie, Hoffman’s voice would shatter it.  For a daddy-taking-the-boy-to-an-age-appropriate-movie, this was a bummer.  The plot is over in about five minutes.  The visuals are limited to five year olds.  There is no intendre that goes over kids heads straight to their parents amusement.  There is no social commentary.  There is nothing to keep the parent entertained.  As such, I bored pretty quickly.

However, this is a movie about a magical toy store.  The age appropriate attendee for this movie was captivated by all the flash and magic.  He did tend to get restless with some of the dialogue scenes.  But, the movie would lurch back to its magic and he was fine.  He made it through the entire movie.  When queried about the movie while I am writing this, he said he liked it, it was “cool”.

As such, we’ll probably go back pretty soon.

I’ll be sure to take earplugs this time.

Giants men have it all wrong

posted by Moonage

SOME Giants fans are looking like idiots.  Grovelling, begging, and failing to get babes to bare their boobs, they just look desperate.  Meanwhile, Swedish dudes have it all figured out.  By telling women they can’t show too much, babes are dropping their tops like flies.

Take a hint Section D.

Ebaying

posted by Moonage

I have been a member of Ebay for a few years.  To date, I had never successfully bought anything.  Ever.  For a while I tried.  I did the usual of watching it to the very end.  I even did the waiting to the last possible second and tossing in a bid.  No avail.  I never got anything.  This morning I placed a bid on a racqetball racquet.  I topped the other guy by $1.  I then watched some football.  Went to see a movie.  Came home and watched more football.  I just now checked my email and I had actually won this bid!

Now, the downside of eBay.  If no one else bid $1 in seven hours, it must be bad.  There must be something wrong with it.  It must be a scam.  I can think of so many reasons why no one would bid.  I can’t think of any good reason no one would not bid $1 more.

Oh well.  We’ll see.

The Ten Commandments

posted by Moonage

The Ten Commandments have been all over the news the last decade or so.  Liberals want them purged from society, conservatives want them in our courthouses.  Hollywood’s a magnet for out-of-touch liberals.  So, to show they’re not unfeeling towards the rest of the country, they made a movie saluting The Ten Commandments.  Only problem is, it’s awful.  The animation sucks.  It reminded me a lot of Antz.  Which is all fine and good if you want to convince your kid that man used to resemble testosterine injected ants.  The plot lurched wildly from scene to scene.  The voices, oddly enough given that we had Elliott Gould as God and Christian Slater as Moses, sounded contrived.

Bottom line, no thumbs out of four.  Moonlet, who wanted to see Transformers multiple times, and even has seen Bee Movie more than once and will go back, never asked to see this movie again.
