This is what I’ll be doing Saturday:
I’ll just have to leave you all with the visual for now as I probably won’t make any effort to blog slightly before, during, or after for a couple of days. There’s something I MUST do whenever I hear Atomic Dog. And I assure you, it’s not blogworthy.
In the mean time, all you folks that got bent out of shape because I don’t think Fugazzi or Metallica merit being a "great hard rock band". Here’s one reason why:
Neither of those bands ever learned how to play guitar quite like the above example. That "great hard rock band" you’re hearing right now is the one and only Parliament/Funkadelic circa 1979. I doubt they ever considered themselves a "hard rock band" tho. Maybe now people will understand that just because someone played a hard rock lick doesn’t make them a "great hard band". I doubt it, they’ll still say I’m redarted and don’t know what I’m talking about even while they sit there and try to figure out how the hell they went their entire "hard rock" lives without ever hearing that hard rock icon P-Funk doing Maggot Brain. So, before you Metallicaheads and Fugazzi nutcases try to tell me how great they were, send me the example of where they play the instrument that defines "hard rock" better than Michael Hampton and P-Funk did. That’s all you gotta do.
So who is the guy in the diaper?
He’s just one funked up dude. He’s been with Clinton for about 30 years from what I can tell watching videos. ( If you watched that one, recognize the really TALL rapper? )
Yes, I watched it! Actually liked it (don’t really like rap but this was OK). The really big guy was Shaq, right? I thought I had heard he was doing rap “on the side.”
The big guy is Shaq. Will have a long post on the weekend, but unfortunately I didn’t get to see Atomic Dog. Did get to see the other two songs I wanted tho. And, I will leave with this much, he didn’t have any rap up until we left at least. Leave with this much as well, out of all the bands we saw, I enjoyed Clinton the most.
More later
Truthfully, I haven’t got a clue what you’re writing about…when it comes to rap bands.
Clinton’s not rap. Rap lost its funk a long time ago. Rap’s just a bunch of kids bragging on how tough they are. That’s the farthest thing in the world from funk. Clinton is more soul with some jazz and R&B mixed in. Kind of a smoother James Brown if you will. Imagine that feeling you get when you know you’re gonna get “some”. That’s funk. That’s what they’re striving for musically. If the world got its funk back, it’d be a lot better place.
