Finally, rappers with some class

posted by Moonage

I hate .  It’s not that I hate the sound ALL THE TIME, but I just detest the culture.  Since I was a kid, mankind has devloped all kinds of new technologies to improve communication and information about all cultures and walks of life throughout the entire world.  Certain segments of the world have clung to 1940’s fascism, bigotry, and racism.  One is the extremist elements of Islam that is causing the entire planet grief.  Another is rap which seems to focus on causing the US grief.  Rap dwells on selling bigotry, racism, violence, and no self-esteem.  There have been a few exceptions, but I can sure name a LOT of dead rappers that promoted that culture.  One band is stepping up and proving you can have class AND be a rapper:

The Peapod Benefit Concert featuring The Black Eyed Peas and friends. The concert is the first major philanthropic endeavor for The Peapod Foundation, founded by The Black Eyed Peas in association with the Entertainment Industry Foundation. The event will also help raise awareness for The Peapod Foundation’s philanthropic work in the region. The Peapod is scheduled to take place Sunday, May 28th, 2006 at Johannesburg Stadium at Ellis Park in South Africa.

Now, I knew there was a reason I liked My Humps.  Kudos to the Black Eyed Peas.  All you gangstas should look up to the Black Eyed Peas instead of taking aim at each other.  And for what it’s worth, being a gangster is SOOO 1930’s, can’t they come up with something creative and new?  The Peapod is a good example to start with.  How’s about this, being so KIND it repulses the average kid’s parent?  Just to keep it cool, I’ll keep bitching and moaning.  I just don’t like rap.

But I do admire the Black Eyed Peas for now.  And that’s cool.

( If you know of others doing good things for people, let me know. We need more stuff like this. )

Captaining houseboats

posted by Moonage

I love boating on the lake. Do it whenever I possibly can. However, due to constant major expenses, we’ve not had a boat of our own for the past several years. So, we’ve had to rely on others’ kindness ( and supplying gas and beer ) for boat trips. Now, I LOVE runabouts. I love to kick the accelerator to about as high as it will go and zip accross the lake at unsafe speeds with the wind blowing in my hair under the hot sun. Anything larger than than a runabout and I lose enthusiasm. At this point in my life, you can NOT get me to navigate a houseboat. So, I’m teaching my son how to do it. We started small a few years ago:

Learning to drive at 1

And we’re now taking on larger floating objects:

Learning to drive

( Don’t worry moms, it’s actually a large pontoon. We’ll tackle the houseboats next year! )

Tired of the Britney Spears trashing

posted by Moonage

There has been a ceaseless barrage of articles attacking Britney Spears’ mothering abilities.  It’s gotten so bad I totally deleted my Jossip feed.  Granted, she may not be the ideal parental unit, what everyone seems to be missing is she is WITH her baby.  I’m spending time with my baby/kid as much as I possibly can.  This is my first and only go ’round trying.  I’ve made some pretty dumb mistakes and I’m here to tell you no matter how sharp you think you are, a kid can make you look stupider than mud, especially in public.  The reason MOST celebrities don’t have dumb pictures to take being with their kid is because they’re not WITH their kids enough to allow their kids to make them look bad.  All the trashing really tells me is these people have never been there, done that.  I have, I’m on Britney’s side.  As long as the baby’s with her and she’s not dangling it from second story windows or draping them in hoods, I think she’s doing just fine from what I’ve seen.  And more imprtantly, I’ll bet her baby thinks so too.

Pamela Rogers - Action Figure!

posted by Moonage

You’ve seen her on tv. You’ve read about her in the news. You’ve seen her movie. Now, if you can figure out how, you can own the action figure!

That’s right boys! You can own your very own teacher that would make David Lee Roth drool like a fourteen year old! It’s currently unavailable on Ebay, but I’m sure it’ll pop up at sextoys.com fairly soon.

Damn cars

posted by Moonage

Friday we had a trip to Lexington planned. I snuck out of work a little early to get everything ready. When I was about a block from the house, my van lurched and I lost my power steering. I knew that was bad. I pulled into the garage and took a quick look-see. It was this little gadget gone bad:

Serpentine belt

Now, that is a serpentine belt. With a lot of vehicles these days, that’s the way they’re set up. That ONE belt runs EVERYTHING. My van was basically ko’d. I called the wrecker and he ran right over and towed it to a garage. So, we loaded up the car and packed everyone in it for the trip. The trip itself went fine. We got home that evening and I later went out to get something out of the car. The first thing I notced was the front right tire was flat as you can get. I just went to bed.

I called the garage the next morning. The problem with the van was the air conditioner compressor had locked up. I asked if they would be so kind as to fix the car real quick for me. They graciously accepted. While I was getting the car fixed, we discussed the van. It’s going to cost me about $1,000 to fix it. That wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t for the way over budget house I’m building right now.

If anyone wants to, they can contribute to the “Keep Moon Rolling” fund here:

HER Side of the story:

Tonight I thought he was acting weird.  We had made plans to meet at a bar to have a drink. I was shopping with my  friends all day long, so I thought He was upset at the fact that I was a bit late, but he made no comment. Conversation wasn’t flowing so I suggested that we go somewhere quiet so we could talk. He agreed but he kept quiet and absent.  I asked him what was wrong; he said nothing.  I asked him if it was  my fault that he was upset.  He said it had nothing to do with me and not to worry. On the way home I told him that I loved him, he simply smiled and kept driving. I can’t explain his behavior. I don’t know why he didn’t say I love  you too. When we got home I felt as if I had lost him, as if he wanted  nothing to do with me anymore. He just sat there and watched T.V. He seemed distant and absent. Finally, I decided to go to bed. About 10 minutes later he came to bed, and to my surprise he responded to my caress and we made love, but I still felt that he was distracted  and his thoughts were somewhere else. He fell asleep - I cried. I don’t know what to do.  I’m almost sure that his thoughts are with someone else. My life is a disaster.

HIS side of the story:

I shot the worst round of golf in my life today, but at least I got laid.

This is SO real I had to laugh.

Robert Leonard

posted by Moonage

In 1969, at the otherwise psychedelic escape that was Woodstock, one band has always struck me as being the odd one out of the entire event. That was Sha Na Na. Sha Na Na wasn’t as serious as everyone else there. they were kinda goofy, kinda silly, kind of a parody of bee-bop pop of the 50’s. They were fun tho. One of the original members of Sha Na Na was a guy named Robert Leonard:

Now, this guy would put Elvis to shame when it came to over-emoting, This guy could weep on demand. He was great. Through tv shows and guest appearances, Sha Na Na became more and more a parody of 50’s rock and less and less a musical act. Leonard left fairly quickly to pursue other things in life. What he is doing today isn’t exactly what most has-been rock stars pursue. He’s a forensic linguist. Most people at Woodstock can’t even pronounce that today. But, if you think about it, that’s what he was doing with Sha Na Na as well. I like success stories. Leonard, in a very quiet way, is one of those.

NME Top Rock Heroes

posted by Moonage

This post should have been labeled ( What’s wrong with rock today? ).

According to NME, here are the top 20 rock “heroes of all time”:

Pathetic.  Truly pathetic.  Apparently NME readers are more concerned with where to get their next hit than they are their music.  I’d like to see a similar list done as “Most over-exposed losers” and compare names.  Clue here stoners, there’s a LOT more music out there than what you see on MTV right now.  A LOT.

( Clue here, even NME questioned their readers as to what they could possibly admire about Pete Doherty. He’s a loser of the first degree.  He’ll be dead soon and no one will remember him a year after he’s gone. And, that’s a good thing.  The fact one single person in this world would consider him a hero is pathetic. )

A vision of Carmen doing…….

posted by Moonage

A gossip rag I read a lot properly noted that of late, there’s pretty much been a lesbian “crush” every week. This week’s been no exception. However, I fall for those stupid headlines every single time without exception going back to the Jane Fonda threesomes. This week, I thought I had a winner in the biggest way. Carmen Electra! Seems this babe ( Carmen ), shown here:

Had a crush on this babe ( Joan Jett ), as she looks now:

Carmen, I mean, DAYUM! Think Jessica!
