When someone is convicted and sentenced as a child molester or third degree sex offender we should just put them to sleep like we do a sick suffering animal. Nothing else works put them to sleep and bury them.

We need REAL solutions, here guys. This case makes me so sick, it keeps me up at night — but unfortunately — cruel and unusual punishment will never be allowed.
There was NOTHING poor Shasta could do, but this was a highly unusual case. We need to make our children smarter about these types of people. They need self-defense skills, empowerment skills and life-saving information. They need to be aware of the Joseph Duncans of the world.
I think child safety courses should be mandatory in schools — part of the curriculum. Children are naive…and we want so desperately for them to stay that way –but that’s not what will help keep them safe.

Hello, I have been sick over this case since it began and now that I see Dylan’s face everywhere it seems my stomach won’t settle down. I am so angry at the judges and system that has allowed this sick animal to roam free to hurt innocent children and adults. As I understand it the judge in Minnesota claims he was not aware of duncan’s past sexual atrocities… HE IS A JUDGE AND HE HAS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF KNOWING WHAT HE IS DOING. He should be held accountable for his part in this and should be charged with aiding and abetting a criminal action. Just the statement that he was not aware shows he should not be anywhere near a judge’s position. He is a menace to society and as far as duncan is concerned… he deserves the death penalty for his crime on this earth. From then on the Lord will judge him… WE have to DO SOMETHING about the holes in our system that allows innocents to die a horrible death or that allows perpetrators like duncan to be set free. As far as I am concerned his first act of raping a 14 year old at gunpoint should have put him away for the rest of his life. HOLD THESE EVIL people accountable the first time and others will not suffer in the future. What can we do to stop this other than vote out incompetence like the Minnesota judges and other parts of the system that allows sick perverts like this back out on the streets? Let’s not just stop with talk… what can we do? Suggestions?

Have you all heard how this Duncan sicko killed the Groene family members in thier house? He killed them with a hammer. And at least the 13 year old brother Slade didn’t die immediately; he ‘staggered bloody & incoherent’ out of the house before dying. That’s how Duncan needs to be done. With a hammer. Old school. And then let the press write about THAT after they’ve SEEN it being done. The most effective way to deter these sick pukes is to scare the living sh*t out of them. And if that doesn’t work, guaranteed the hammer will. I’m all for tolerence, but not in cases such as these. Not with criminals. You have to crack down on them HARD! EVERY TIME! NO EXCEPTIONS! EVER! You give them a break & they’ll just get sicker. Extinguish the sick b*stards! I like the green tatoo idea. I also like the amputation idea. I think a guillotine would work like a charm. I REALLY THINK THAT SOCIETY SHOULD HAVE ZERO TOLERANCE FOR THIS KIND OF BEHAVIOR; AND BY ZERO, I MEAN ZERO. You cannot reason with barbarians. What makes this sick piece of sh*t any different than a terrorist? A couple of things: He’s already within the borders of the United States & he’s a US citizen. That makes him MORE dangerous than a terrorist. Take this piece of human garbage out & string him up. It’s less than he deserves, but at least it will make the world one less sicko better.

That questions has been asked for a long time. The general feeling I have is that in the case of Joe Duncan, they were not acts of sexual perversion so much as acts of violence against society in general. Castration may remove the urge to have sex, but it won’t remove the urge to kill or harm others. There’s only one procedure that will totally eliminate that threat.

Do any of you ever stop and think that its the isolation and severe punishment that we give these guys that drives them over the top? Dont get me wrong, I do not at all condone these peoples monstrous actions, however, they are known everywhere they go for what they did, which I’m sure makes it hard to have any sort of life style. They arent wanted where ever they move, and they are constantly ridiculed by the world. These sort of actions have an affect on someone mentally, and could make someone snap causing the horrid affects you see here. If these people are not going to be given life sentances all the time, then I honestly do not believe that the way to cure society of this disease is to pressure these people even more. I do not have the answers, but I do not believe that is it.

I agree this guy never should have been released from prison. However, I am just responding to these comments such as green face laws and such. I know that it feels good to punish these people severly and humiliate them in society, however, I just wanted to point out that doing such a thing can have the opposite affect and cause more of these monsters to lash out to society.

Of course I agree, but if we then turn around and start punishing and humiliating all the other sex offenders out of fear, wouldnt it cause more of them to feel like they were being isolated and to want to lash back? Him also being a juvie when he first raped the boy at knife point put him at an advantage as he got a much lighter sentance. If we start putting more severe punishments on the juvies that commit these offenses, then we will hear an outpouring from the “but they are just children” crowd.

I think it may help if we start using capital punishment for the most severe of these sentances. In britian you can be put to death if you are over 25 and your victim is 11 or younger. I am sure we have all felt murderous rage at one point or another but did nothing about it for fear of this type of retribution. Putting that on the table may solve many a pedo from seeking deviant sexual gradification.

When one is caught they undergo intensive counseling. Contrary to popular believe, this counseling is effective in about 85% of violent sex offenders (http://www.insidedenver.com/drmn/local/article/0,1299,DRMN_15_3557963,00.html).

If we find someway to publicly fund this type of couseling for people to attend BEFORE they commit their hainess crimes, then perhaps this could also bring down the crimes against children.

I know many people out there would say “why should I spend money to help a sicko like this when we should just kill them”, however one huge flaw with our, and basically all, justice systems is that the damage has to be done before we can be able to step in and do anything about it. What I speak of is preventative counseling.

My point is most of the violent offenders began as non-violent offenders. If we as a society deem certain non-violent offenders to be released from prison, then we cannot have a continuance of punishment on them that results in humiliation. If we make them register, and make them feel like outcast, and the system provides a way for people to express their verbal vigilantism and obvious hate towards them, they will feel more and more a vendetta against society and less and less to lose. Simply stated, I believe that if the first offense, was violent, or the victim was of a significantly younger age, they should not be released into common society, ever. They should either stay in jail, or after a period of time, be released into an isolated, supervised part of the city, away from families. Sort of a small community of half-way houses.

The majority of violent offenders started as non-violent offenders, Duncan excluding. If we as a society deem these people safe to release into the general neighborhood, then we should not also isolate them with the registration database.

Granted, I would like to know if someone who had at one time committed a non-violent offense lived next door to me, it would make me approach the person a little differantly. If I did not have the persons history, I would be more welcoming of them, and this in tune may make the person feel more welcome, thus less isolated, thus less the subverse desire to lash out again.

I do not believe the registration system works. It causes paranoia as it does not discriminate between the 19 year old who had sex with the 15 year old, and the 50 year old who molested a 5 year old. Also many parents are unfimiliar with it and dont know of/or how to take advantage of it.

Even if they did, how do they protect their child from the monster next door? Obviously they can warn their children to stay away, however, they cannot monitor these children 24/7. As with Duncan and the recent travisties in florida, the children did not go willingly anyway. If the only offenders to make the list were the ones we truly had to worry about, then it would make the job much less tedious. I dont like the fact that the middle aged man who picked up the prosititute is thrown in with the monsters, and we as individuals are left to assume the distinctions.

It would also be helpful if these people were required to undergo phsycological profiles from time to time. I just believe that we need to focus on preventative measures, rather than we as a society focusing on vengeful and humilitating measure behind the guise of “identification”.

Capital punishment does not stop murders from taking place, 3 strikes laws do not stop drugs. Clearly trying to scare the perpetrators by stiffining the laws does not work. These are our children and someting needs to be done that has not been done before that works. Its time for creative thinking.

Just to reiterate, I am not talking of Duncan here, I hope and believe he will get the needle which is much too good for him. My whole argument is how do we rationally and effectivly prevent this from happening again, what is this, 3 times in the past year?

Was there any sign of a struggle in the house when Duncan rounded them up and killed them? Did he just walk in and say ‘ok, everbody be real still while I tie you up and beat you to death with this hammer or shoot you with this gun?’ Didn’t he have to lay the gun or hammer or whatever down, divert his attention to something else for a second, even if he had them tie each other up? What happened to their sense of self-defense? Not blaming the victims, it’s just horribly frightening to know that someone could just walk into another person’s house and catch them so off guard, maybe lull them into a false sense of security by saying, ‘Do what I say and I won’t hurt you . . . ‘ Who wouldn’t want to believe that in the same situation? That’s why the mama called the little girl downstairs from her bed, I’m sure. I can see it all in my mind’s eye! They were so scared, they wanted to believe the lie that ‘everything would be ok . . .’ In that way, the terrorists are right . . . we ARE like sheep and it has got to STOP! Read this guy’s blogs where he says he was molested and raped regularly and thought it was ‘normal’. The fact that he committed his first offense (recorded anyway) at gunpoint defys any truth in that statement. There’s something to be learned from this man in how he describes trying to ‘live a normal life’ and being a ‘victim’ of society. Maybe our society DID do this to him by throwing him into prison at 16 with grown adults for 18 years or however long, especially if he was raped as a child himself. Read the newspapers!! Catholic priests have been molesting little kids for DECADES and their superiors either KNEW or SUSPECTED and DID LITTLE OR NOTHING TO STOP IT. No wonder we’re being overrun with these monsters. There are no easy answers but in the meantime, innocent children and adults are paying the price for our not finding those answers. And little Shasta has not a prayer as it sounds like her ‘environment’ may not be much of an improvement over her six weeks with Duncan.

I would just like to send a quick note to who ever it is posting that the grone family is on meth!! I am a cousin to the grones and i would gladly give a blood sample urin dna and i can tell you it would all come out clean. The grones are not using the money to buy drugs or what ever it is your claiming!! Do you not realize the amount of tourment Shasta has had to go through!! Counseling takes money jack ass!! All the specialists take money!! Who do you think is paying for all of this? Are you? So before you go making acusations that are untrue maybe you should stop and think before you open your ignorant mouth again!!
