This is purely the fault of District Judge Thomas Schroeder. In the event of a molestation case, of any magnitude, he should know if the defendant has a history or if this is a first time offense. If the prosecution doesn’t present it as evidence, ASK! Dumbass. Sexual predators are ALWAYS a threat to society. They don’t suddenly change stripes. The only question is when they are going to strike next, not if. And, if that sexual predator preys on children, they don’t need to be walkin the freakin streets. And, if they announce their intentions to do more harm, they need to be locked up or done away with RIGHT THEN.
This situation is not the fault of Joseph Edward Duncan III, he was FUBAR from the day he was born. It is the fault of an inept and uncaring Judge who didn’t take the five seconds it takes to ask one simple question. Joseph Duncan III needs killin in the worst way. When someone is convicted and sentenced as a child molester or third degree sex offender we should just put them to sleep like we do a sick suffering animal. Nothing else works put them to sleep and bury them.

There was NOTHING poor Shasta could do, but this was a highly unusual case. We need to make our children smarter about these types of people. They need self-defense skills, empowerment skills and life-saving information. They need to be aware of the Joseph Duncans of the world.
I think child safety courses should be mandatory in schools — part of the curriculum. Children are naive…and we want so desperately for them to stay that way –but that’s not what will help keep them safe.
I am a grandmother of four. My grandchildren live just outside Tulsa, OK.
I check the sex offender listing for their area often and make sure my daughter knows.
But what about those who aren’t registered, and have moved into that area ??
The authorities say there are too many to keep tract of, but I say, WHERE THERE IS A WILL THERE IS A WAY !!

Hello, I have been sick over this case since it began and now that I see Dylan’s face everywhere it seems my stomach won’t settle down. I am so angry at the judges and system that has allowed this sick animal to roam free to hurt innocent children and adults. As I understand it the judge in Minnesota claims he was not aware of duncan’s past sexual atrocities… HE IS A JUDGE AND HE HAS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF KNOWING WHAT HE IS DOING. He should be held accountable for his part in this and should be charged with aiding and abetting a criminal action. Just the statement that he was not aware shows he should not be anywhere near a judge’s position. He is a menace to society and as far as duncan is concerned… he deserves the death penalty for his crime on this earth. From then on the Lord will judge him… WE have to DO SOMETHING about the holes in our system that allows innocents to die a horrible death or that allows perpetrators like duncan to be set free. As far as I am concerned his first act of raping a 14 year old at gunpoint should have put him away for the rest of his life. HOLD THESE EVIL people accountable the first time and others will not suffer in the future. What can we do to stop this other than vote out incompetence like the Minnesota judges and other parts of the system that allows sick perverts like this back out on the streets? Let’s not just stop with talk… what can we do? Suggestions?

i’ve been reading the comments today, i agree about getting rid of the sex offenders that hurt children. there is no excuse for this – none what so ever. i believe if we would bring back town square hangings and hang everyone one who hurt a child these sick animals would find another way to get there jollies. i do not think they can be changed. it’s been proving over and over that they do it again and again. hang them after the first offense that they are proving guilty without a doubt. A child is precious and if we as adults cannot protect them what does it say about us. our gov’t, police and groups need to get together and say hell no, this will not and cannot happen again. if you like children in that way, go ahead and kill yourself and or report to the nearest strong tall tree. we’ll take care of you. as far as tatooing the faces green, whatever it takes to identify these people is fine with me. they need to be off the streets now.
Also, Shasta and her family, if they need help financially with burial cost and counciling help, then if you can you should help. It is not the whole families fault that there are a few bad apples who has done something wrong. You do not punish the whole for one. Shasta or her family did not ask for this to happen, even if everyone is not lawabiding. Open your hearts and do not judge. Take your anger out on the duncans of our country. Hang them. Kill them. They do not deserve a second chance after hurting a child. It is up to us to stop them – we have to make our law enforcement and gov’t see this. that we will not take it sitting down. everyone needs to write your state reps and senators and tell them to stop this now before another child gets hurt.
Have you all heard how this Duncan sicko killed the Groene family members in thier house? He killed them with a hammer. And at least the 13 year old brother Slade didn’t die immediately; he ‘staggered bloody & incoherent’ out of the house before dying. That’s how Duncan needs to be done. With a hammer. Old school. That questions has been asked for a long time. The general feeling I have is that in the case of Joe Duncan, they were not acts of sexual perversion so much as acts of violence against society in general. Castration may remove the urge to have sex, but it won’t remove the urge to kill or harm others. There’s only one procedure that will totally eliminate that threat.
You can’t cure these sickos, period. Right now you can’t stop them as the system keeps letting them out, or most of them. Anyway the damage gets done even if only one is out and we all know there are thousands out there. You can’t ID them with an ankle braclet as they can hide it from your sight. If you gave them the death sentance (which they all deserve the first time they are convicted) the system would keep them alive with appeals, and put the family and child through even more continual hell. If you did the hangings in public, some sicko would make a reality TV show out of it to make a buck. I agree with the GREEN LAW. If we, the public, could immediatly (immediatly being key here) identify them it would put a huge dent in ability of the child molester to opperate in anominity (Forgive my horrid spelling!!). If you, a normal person, saw a person with a green face walking down the street with a kid, or out of a store or anywhere, you would do something right than and there. BECAUSE YOU WOULD SEE RIGHT OFF IT JUST AIN’T RIGHT. Police can’t be everywhere (most of them have kids too and they hate them as much as we do, if not more ’cause they see the pain they cause kids all the time), there arn’t enough probation/parol folks (they don’t want them out there either)to moniter child molesters and it seems a lot of the judicial system folks have lost their ability to see right from wrong. Now, you might get some flack from that all American organization, the ACLU, for violating the molester’s rights to rape and kill our kids without being identified, but I think we have all just about had it with lawyers who allways think about the rights of the individual reguardless of what they have done, over the rights of those who don’t get in trouble. Now, if this Duncan’s face was green, do you think he would have gotten past his 2nd. try at hurting someone’s kid? Yeah, I know, he should have been locked up for life, or killed the first time, but it does not happen like that. SOOOOOOOOOOOO……I’m for the GREEN LAW. Dont get me wrong, I do not at all condone these peoples monstrous actions, however, they are known everywhere they go for what they did, which I’m sure makes it hard to have any sort of life style. They arent wanted where ever they move, and they are constantly ridiculed by the world. These sort of actions have an affect on someone mentally, and could make someone snap causing the horrid affects you see here. If these people are not going to be given life sentances all the time, then I honestly do not believe that the way to cure society of this disease is to pressure these people even more. I do not have the answers, but I do not believe that is it.

He raped a young boy at gunpoint BEFORE the isolation and severe punishment ever started. I don’t know what isolation Duncan has had to suffer. He was in a prison with lots of other people, then released to a world where he blogged and had a social life. Given that freedom, he molested another boy. It was the result of both of freedoms that got him into trouble.
He just needs killin. Get it over with. Don’t isolate him. Just end his suffering.
I agree this guy never should have been released from prison. However, I am just responding to these comments such as green face laws and such. I know that it feels good to punish these people severly and humiliate them in society, however, I just wanted to point out that doing such a thing can have the opposite affect and cause more of these monsters to lash out to society.

Of course I agree, but if we then turn around and start punishing and humiliating all the other sex offenders out of fear, wouldnt it cause more of them to feel like they were being isolated and to want to lash back? Him also being a juvie when he first raped the boy at knife point put him at an advantage as he got a much lighter sentance. If we start putting more severe punishments on the juvies that commit these offenses, then we will hear an outpouring from the “but they are just children” crowd.
I think it may help if we start using capital punishment for the most severe of these sentances. In britian you can be put to death if you are over 25 and your victim is 11 or younger. I am sure we have all felt murderous rage at one point or another but did nothing about it for fear of this type of retribution. Putting that on the table may solve many a pedo from seeking deviant sexual gradification.

If we find someway to publicly fund this type of couseling for people to attend BEFORE they commit their hainess crimes, then perhaps this could also bring down the crimes against children.
I know many people out there would say “why should I spend money to help a sicko like this when we should just kill them”, however one huge flaw with our, and basically all, justice systems is that the damage has to be done before we can be able to step in and do anything about it. What I speak of is preventative counseling.
Well, for starters, I don’t think the intent of green-facing is to humiliate. It is to mark them so that parents will know to keep an eye on them. It was in response to the multiple obvious failures of the sex-offenders database. If they look no different than you or me, and the ability to track them is lost or broken, it puts chilren at risk and gives the parents absolutely no warning that their children are in peril in the first place.

The counter problem is that most molestations go un-reported. The ones that get caught are most usually the violent offenses. However, sexual predators don’t stop their “normal” behavior simply because they got caught. They learn as most people do to modify their behavior to such a way that it is not likely to get them prosecuted again. Duncan is a perfect example of what I am talking about. His violent rape got him in jail. His non-violent molestation got him free on bond awaiting a trial. Having nothing to lose, he acted out on his violent tendencies. That is where my criticism of the judge in this case comes from. First time offenders of non-violent nature is not what anyone’s talking about here. It’s a third time offender who now has a history of rape, molestation, and several counts of murder. If common sense had been used after the molestation, at the very least the murders would not have occurred. This guy has not learned in 20 years. He just needs to be dealt the same sentence he gave those people who had done nothing to him. He could be put in prison again, reform, and released again. But, I bet you my bottom dollar that if he feels helpless again, he’ll lash out exactly the same.

My point is most of the violent offenders began as non-violent offenders. If we as a society deem certain non-violent offenders to be released from prison, then we cannot have a continuance of punishment on them that results in humiliation. If we make them register, and make them feel like outcast, and the system provides a way for people to express their verbal vigilantism and obvious hate towards them, they will feel more and more a vendetta against society and less and less to lose. Simply stated, I believe that if the first offense, was violent, or the victim was of a significantly younger age, they should not be released into common society, ever. They should either stay in jail, or after a period of time, be released into an isolated, supervised part of the city, away from families. Sort of a small community of half-way houses.
The majority of violent offenders started as non-violent offenders, Duncan excluding. If we as a society deem these people safe to release into the general neighborhood, then we should not also isolate them with the registration database.
Granted, I would like to know if someone who had at one time committed a non-violent offense lived next door to me, it would make me approach the person a little differantly. If I did not have the persons history, I would be more welcoming of them, and this in tune may make the person feel more welcome, thus less isolated, thus less the subverse desire to lash out again.
I do not believe the registration system works. It causes paranoia as it does not discriminate between the 19 year old who had sex with the 15 year old, and the 50 year old who molested a 5 year old. Also many parents are unfimiliar with it and dont know of/or how to take advantage of it.
Even if they did, how do they protect their child from the monster next door? Obviously they can warn their children to stay away, however, they cannot monitor these children 24/7. As with Duncan and the recent travisties in florida, the children did not go willingly anyway. If the only offenders to make the list were the ones we truly had to worry about, then it would make the job much less tedious. I dont like the fact that the middle aged man who picked up the prosititute is thrown in with the monsters, and we as individuals are left to assume the distinctions.
It would also be helpful if these people were required to undergo phsycological profiles from time to time. I just believe that we need to focus on preventative measures, rather than we as a society focusing on vengeful and humilitating measure behind the guise of “identification”.
Capital punishment does not stop murders from taking place, 3 strikes laws do not stop drugs. Clearly trying to scare the perpetrators by stiffining the laws does not work. These are our children and someting needs to be done that has not been done before that works. Its time for creative thinking.

He was not lashing out at society, as he stated in his pathetic bid to once again shift responsibility for his actions on anyone but himself…..All this guy wanted to do was get his rocks off by raping and torturing small children. And, when was the last time England executed someone? They are worse than us with the death sentence!! We have the death penality allready, and that does not seem to stop the raping and killing of children. Children disappear all the time and these perverts are never caught. These guys go back to jail again and again for the same thing. Aparently, they don’t view the death penality or an extremely long jail sentenance as either a punishment or a determent. It is not a flaw in the criminal justice system that a crime has to be committed before we step in!! This is a free society. You can’t arrest someone for NOT committing a crime. You arrest them, convict them and than punish them AFTER they commit the crime. There is no such thing as preventive counciling for sexual preditors. These molesters are thriving right now because they are in contact with others of their kind that share their same preversions. They arn’t in contact with doctors on the internet!! They are not seeking to stop. They look to blend in and continue what they are doing without being caught. I have no doubt Duncan got manditory counciling in jail (all the times he served time) and it seems to have made no impact on him except to make him mad and give him and excuse (in his warped mind) to behave even worse than previous. Yup, these boys need killin if the green face does not work. It is justice.
Was there any sign of a struggle in the house when Duncan rounded them up and killed them? Did he just walk in and say ‘ok, everbody be real still while I tie you up and beat you to death with this hammer or shoot you with this gun?’ Didn’t he have to lay the gun or hammer or whatever down, divert his attention to something else for a second, even if he had them tie each other up? What happened to their sense of self-defense? Not blaming the victims, it’s just horribly frightening to know that someone could just walk into another person’s house and catch them so off guard, maybe lull them into a false sense of security by saying, ‘Do what I say and I won’t hurt you . . . ‘ Who wouldn’t want to believe that in the same situation? That’s why the mama called the little girl downstairs from her bed, I’m sure. I can see it all in my mind’s eye! They were so scared, they wanted to believe the lie that ‘everything would be ok . . .’ In that way, the terrorists are right . . . we ARE like sheep and it has got to STOP! Read this guy’s blogs where he says he was molested and raped regularly and thought it was ‘normal’. The fact that he committed his first offense (recorded anyway) at gunpoint defys any truth in that statement. There’s something to be learned from this man in how he describes trying to ‘live a normal life’ and being a ‘victim’ of society. Maybe our society DID do this to him by throwing him into prison at 16 with grown adults for 18 years or however long, especially if he was raped as a child himself. Read the newspapers!! Catholic priests have been molesting little kids for DECADES and their superiors either KNEW or SUSPECTED and DID LITTLE OR NOTHING TO STOP IT. No wonder we’re being overrun with these monsters. There are no easy answers but in the meantime, innocent children and adults are paying the price for our not finding those answers. And little Shasta has not a prayer as it sounds like her ‘environment’ may not be much of an improvement over her six weeks with Duncan.
Thank you B. I agree. Be rational people. This is America and you aren’t going to be able to pass a law that kills them immediately, cuts off a hand, or probably even tattos them green (though I like that idea). For that you need to go to Russia, or better yet, the Mid-East.
There is something to be learned from this particular case, given anyone wants to learn and not just vent over the irrationality of it all. He once was a child who was abused himself, and never given the opportunity of help or healing when it might have mattered or helped him to develop into a normal human being. Remember he’s not a dropout, he’s actually quite intelligent. And if you read his posts, he’s reaching out for help, though he’s not strong enough or trusting enough to know how to really go about it.
You need to start at the root of the problem. Most all child molesters where molested themselves. Education for our youth, and then a serious way to track and “know,” who these people are is our only hope in protecting society. And even then, it’s not going to be 100%.
I have kids and they know the dangers because I am honest with them and not afraid to tell them. It’s fine to scare the child molesters, but my kids know the dangers because I keep them aware of what’s going on in the world. Have you noticed the number of kids who do get “away,” or those that do “tell,” because of safety classes and education that is available? At least here in Washington we have had many children either run from a potential molester, tell a trusted adult, or be able to survive because of good education.
If only someone had been able to see the little boy, named Joe, and determine something was wrong long ago, and possibly help him, we may not be writing on this blog regarding J. Duncan, and Shasta and her family would be sleeping peacefully in their beds.

I am a cousin to the grones and i would gladly give a blood sample urin dna and i can tell you it would all come out clean. The grones are not using the money to buy drugs or what ever it is your claiming!! Do you not realize the amount of tourment Shasta has had to go through!! Counseling takes money jack ass!! All the specialists take money!! Who do you think is paying for all of this? Are you?
