Sid Rosenberg

Controversial sportscaster Sid Rosenberg has been bounced from Don Imus’ wakeup show — for good this time — after joking about breast cancer.

"She won’t look so pretty when she’s bald with one t–," Rosenberg said.

What the hell possessed him to say THAT?  Did he think it was funny?  Was it enlightening to anyone?  He’s an idiot.  He doesn’t need to be on radio.  Imus made the right call, just a little too late.

Sid needs to make a very public apology to anyone that has been affected by cancer.  That would include me.

Aside from anything else, Sid is a horrible example of a human being.

I’ve been known to say some pretty outrageous stuff in my “tawdry” past but nothing quite like some of what falls out of his mouth.

As IMUS said the other morning, Rosenberg was bringing down the whole show (and some mornings, its pretty low without his help, although usually funny anyway).

  • Moonage

I’ve never been a big Imus fan in the first place, so I’m not familiar with Sid. I couldn’t imagine someone bringing Imus down. But, with comments like that, I can now. I just wonder what appealed to Imus in the first place. Shock jocks used to be shocking in fun ways, that’s just not the case any more. Even Stern’s not funny any more. Sid’s just hopefully the nadir of that shock jock drop.

  • StormWarning

I honestly don’t see IMUS as a shock jock anymore.

I started listening and watching to the MSNBC show (6-9am) after Sept. 11th because of the news aspects, and especially because of the numerous interviews that he does with politicians and news people and commentators.

Andrea Mitchell is on weekly; McCain was on this morning in the studio; people like Santorum, Biden, Liberman and Allen all the time…Craig Crawford, Doris Kerns Goodwin etc…editorial staffs from Time and Newsweek (no comment needed).

Sometimes I have to forgive some of the rowdiness for the news value

  • DEBORAH FLYNT

The Sid Rosenberg comment is beyond contempt and Imus made the correct decision. However, I notice that people refer to Imus as a “shock jock” and to place Imus is the Howard Stern category is to place ignorance and bad taste in the pithy, funny and intellegent arena where Mr. Imus places his show. Shame on Sid and the rest of the listners who do not see the difference between the two broadcasts.

  • StormWarning

    You are so right Deborah.

IMUS may have been a DJ in the past, but he’s become an outlet for current newsworthy interviews since Sept. 11th.

Sid was not only a distraction and embarrassment for the show, but he was so clearly an embarrassment to Jewish people everywhere.

    Stern doesn’t count, IMO.

Strippers versus Congressmen, Senators and credible commentators.

  • Sandra Hanna

I have been a fan of Imus for years, knowing his little snips and rantings were just a show and some of his personality. Like my DAD AND Uncles…but they all have a heart of gold. Sid Rosenberg made me cringe and have a terrible taste in my mouth. When he came on I switched channels. I, too, could not fathom what Imus or anyone else sees in him…he should never be on the TV or radio or anywhere in sports especially where young people can hear him.
Finally he’s no where to be seen on IMUS!!

  • Moonage

Well, I’ll have to agree that Imus is not on the same level as Stern. But, to me, the confrontational type of interviewing that Imus has done is to me a milder form of “shock jock”. Now, you all do have to understand I have lived in the country pretty much most of my life. Where I live DJ’s are still polite and well mannered. They address the same topics as Imus does, but, in a more civilized manner. I’m not saying that makes them any better than Imus, it’s just different. The nasty side of Imus is just not something that would be allowed here. For a lot of people, Imus is a shock jock. Stern just lowered the bar of what a “shock jock” is.

The big problem now is that from the Sid comment and the previous one I mentioned in LA, some people don’t have a clue that there even is a bar any more. For that, I do send give Imus kudos for reminding the others that there still is a bar, and even though you can be crusty and nasty, you don’t have to be insulting and trashy.

  • StormWarning

I still think that the redeeming quality of IMUS remains the quality of his guests and what they have to offer, more than any of the “noise” that you might have to endure to hear the good stuff from the show.

He covers both sides of the aisle. And he asks the hard questions that aren’t always asked.

Glad you’re back and hope that you and “all” had a great time.

  • MrKen46

I discovered Imus during the 2000 presidential campaign and have watched/listened to him fairly regularly – primarily because he does do pretty good interviews while not taking them as seriously as the mainstream news. His likeabilty and acceptance can be seen by the wide variety of prestigious political and news figures that are repeat guests on his show.

As far as Sid Rosenberg, he was a huge embarassment and often caused me to turn the show off when he came on – just as a personal protest.

Nobody will miss his “everybody is as perverted as me” attitude. Sadly, I don’t think he even knows the definition of perverted.

  • Nicksta

I’m sorry but Imus is just an angry old man, Sid was outrageous and that was his redeeming feature. Yes, we all have sympathy for those who develop cancer but just when did cancer survivors start wearing their survival as a “badge”. Newsflash – surviving cancer is no more a badge than surviving any potentially fatal disease.

  • Moonage

Newsflash, surviving is not the issue here, Sid’s totally callous and uncalled for comments are. If I wanted a thread on whether or not people suffering from potentially fatal diseases should or should not be subjected to being the butt of god-awful comments from public figures, I would have pointed the post in that direction.

As it is, I’d prefer to keep it on topic. Sid’s an asshole. Period.

  • StormWarning

Not only is Sid an asshole, but unless you get to listen to WFAN 660 sport talk radio in the NY metro area, you aren’t subjected to his inane sports commentary on his 10am-1pm show, and realize just how stupid he really is. I only listen to it whenever I’m in the car, and sometimes I simply have to return to the news radio station for relief.

Believe me, if NY sports talk radio is supposed to be the cream of the crop (with WFAN supposedly being the first in the Nation to do that type of programming), the best of the best, then there is something seriously lacking in sport talk radio talkers intelligence. All you have to do is listen to Chris “Mad Dog” Russo in the 1-6pm slot to realize that speaking in “broken English” and malapropisms is pervasive in today’s world. And we wonder why kids don’t know how to “talk good English.” And his buddy Mike Francesa isn’t a whole lot better, although he is the “smart one” of the duo…Aristotles they are not.

  • frog

everyone on that show says things just as worse. Bernie says equally “offensive” things. my god, lighten up people.

  • Jim

Sid’s the kind of guy you like and don’t know why.
Guess Imus didn’t stand up for him.
Didn’t back his man up on this one or he just is too old and frail to put up much of a fight anymore.
Imus needs to get on the Barnacle Bus.

  • Moonage

I can assure you, Sid’s the kind of guy most people don’t like and know why. I’m no fan of Imus, but Sid doesn’t need to be speaking publicly. He needs an office job with no contact with people.

  • StormWarning

You know, I was listening to the show the morning of the incident (if you didn’t hear/see it, then anything else is purely an opinion).

Anyway, I couldn’t believe it when Sid said what he said about Minogue’s breast cancer. Frankly, everyone on the set(s) couldn’t believe he had said it either and they were all visibly shocked (on MSNBC). This has nothing to do with IMUS “not” standing up for Sid. It has everything with Rosenberg going way over the line…and then he had the nerve to try to defend what he had said.

He’s an embarrassment. Good riddance. I like the “blimp” doing sports now better anyway.

  • Leonard

As a long time Imus listener, going back to the NBC days, I would just about break my finger changing the station when I’d hear Sid come on. What a creep.
All I can say is when someone like this self destructs – and this guy’s just a lowlife dirtbag – it falls under the category “there is a God”……………..

  • http://www.purchaseoil.com omni

It’s amazing that so many people just don’t get it. Sid will be back on Imus in less than 2 months. Look at all the publicity that has been generated by his stupid breast cancer comment. The IMan has a soft spot in his heart for Sid. He can relate to Sid’s addictions. He is already asking how Sid is doing. It’s only a matter of time before he gets Sid back on the show. Imus In The Morning generates more revenue for the FAN than any of it’s Sports Talk Shows. The IMan can do anything he wants. He wants Sid Back.

  • Moonage

If Sid comes back, it should be to only publicly apologize for his incredibly stupid comment.

I personally am betting Sid doesn’t return.

  • Kevin

Sid was and is a moron. I too am a long time listener to the IMUS show and must say that of all the boneheads he has had on the show over the years, Sid takes the cake.
I give IMUS an enormous amount of credit for the ranch and all that he does for kids, to rip him for one truly moronic hiring is not fair… Yes he has had some boneheads on but none that could compare to Sid…

  • sue

I have been away and as a fairly regular Imus viewer I started watching him upon my return. I noticed that Sid wasn’t on and I PRAYED the jerk was fired. I did not know what got him canned until I read this site. I cannot believe that even sid would sink so low. I want to know how his wife can stand being in the same room with him. Makes me wonder….

  • Sandy

I was not aware why Sid had been removed from the program, however, the “person” that has replaced him (the impersonator) does not fit the theme of the program. I would rather listen to Sid’s ridiculous banter than be subjected to this man’s attempt at humor. Imus’s program appeals to a more sophisticated audience. I turn the channel when this person takes center stage. Sid’s comment was beyond redemption, but I am sure he realizes this, and we should be forgiving.

  • Scott

Dear Lord, how many chances does that moron need? Being a recovering drug/alcohol/porn/gambling addict goes not exempt you from normal social mores. Sid has REPEATEDLY crossed the lines of normal behavior, while honestly adding no more to the show than the Yankees or Knicks score (like nothing goes on outside of NY) and a bunch of “I don’t know”‘s when asked about any other scores.

He is a below average local radio personality who is WAY out of his league in a big city, much less nationally. Good riddance. His best career move would be going somewhere else and starting over. Except that anywhere else, the second idiot comment would be his last.

  • Prescott

I think we need to forgive and pity the stupid. Sid could be funny at times, but it’s obvious to me (a long time listener) that he does not even know what he’s said after he’s said it.His cancer comment was just stupid. As Forrest would say,”Stupid is as Stupid does.”
Chris Carlin is doing a much better job!!!!!!!

  • Moonage

Well put Prescott. I’m willing to pity and forgive. And better yet, I’m willing to forget. He still doesn’t need to be back on radio tho.

  • VG

Imus, Bernie, Sid, and even Charles say stuff that would offend me if I were not thickskinned enough to slough it off and glean the gold from this finger-on-the-pulse broadcast. Sid helped make the mix and the show is limping without him. Grow up, people!

  • Moonage

I am grown up. I’m grown up enough to have lost family cancer. There’s not one thing about cancer that’s the least bit funny. I don’t care if Imus’s show goes down in flames, I’ve never listened to it. If the only thing that made his show listenable to you was comments like Sid was making, it doesn’t need to be on the air. It really, really, doesn’t. However, from what I’ve gathered from others, Imus does have a lot more content without relying on Sid.

  • Sun

Moon, either you’re an idiot, or just a product of our decaying public schools.

How can you have a comment about the Imus show if you, as you previously wrote, have “Never listened to it” ????? Being offended by a comedy show is ludicrous. Writing that you “lost family cancer”, I’m guessing lost family TO cancer, is just as ludicrous, being that 95% of the people on this planet can claim that. It’s like saying, “I’ve seen a McDonalds restaurant”.

Sid is being offensive on PURPOSE. That is what he is paid to do. I have been a regular listener to the Imus show since ’92, and Sid is the best sports guy they’ve had since Breen(sp). I listen to be entertained, not to be enlightened. This isn’t a show you listen to and form opinions from. It is light-hearted entertainment, period. Nothing this show provides is to be taken too seriously!

The one thing that has changed over the years, especially in this country, is that comedians and humorists are now taken seriously. No matter how stupid, how raunchy, how ridiculous, or how much ‘in bad taste’ they are, it is still just comedy. To get “outraged” by a comment, no matter how poorly thought out, and to “Pray they get fired” for it, is insane (In my own humble opinion). Get outraged by our leaders. Get outraged over paying more money for a bottle of water than a gallon of gas. Get outraged over the fact that our kids can’t walk down to the playground without an armed adult going with them. Get outraged over the fact Kiddie-porn pop singers are millionaires, and you have to scrape out a living.

Jees….. If you get only one thing out of this, it’s that this is just ENTERTAINMENT. If you don’t like it, that’s fine….turn off your radio. It’s a big world, and everyone thinks differently. I, for one, like Sid. Doesn’t make me right, but it also doesn’t it make me a morally bad person either. He’s a character on a morning radio show. Period.

  • Moonage

Sun, now, although you like to toss out insults based on assumption, you then turn right around and say something even dumber. If, I have never listened to Imus, what good would turning off my radio do?

Huh? Huh? What good would it do?

Sid’s comments didn’t come to me with a drum roll. I didn’t get a preface. I got the quote. It offended me. There was nothing funny about attacking someone suffering from cancer. Nothing, Sun. No chance it could have been. Ever. If Sid’s so damn funny, why is there no ground swell to get him back on the air? Bottom line, he obviously wasn’t funny to a lot of people.

And for you to sit there and compare the death of a family member to a trip to McDonald’s is about as stupid as Sid’s comment. So I can see why he doesn’t bother you. Wait till you lose someone close to you and then see how funny you think cancer is. Until then, turn your radio somewhere else and don’t tune in to my channel. OK?

  • donald w. klopp,md

imus asks the “righ” questions in his interviews ie. almost always asks the question i or ( we ) are thinking beyond the story thats why his news is better than ANY ANY ANY other don, maine

  • Sun

    Moon,

You got me there, but it doesn’t end there. I have lost a family member to cancer. Two, actually, and one to Alzheimers…not that it matters much. It happens. I do not believe you should be offended by comments heard on a morning radio show. If someone who mattered, say a world leader, or even your mayor, then get outraged. That was my point. I’m sorry you have lost someone close, and I’d bet a million bucks if you said the same thing to Mr. Rosenberg, he’d be empathetic. On air, he’s supposed to be a loud, obnoxious, idiot. When I hear anyone on that program say something outrageous, I just shake my head, because I know that no matter how stupid or how insane the statement is, it’s just done for a reaction. Believe it or not, you’re playing right into the Imus’ show hands by being outraged.

Like I wrote before, get outraged over REAL things….like, say, the bombings in London….don’t waste your time with on-air personalities.

Sorry about the ‘idiot’ statement, it was uncalled for. I just think that wanting someone fired for doing the job he’s paid for is, well, sad.

    I hope you’re not a Stern fan…..

  • vg

Cancer is real? Damn, I thought it was made up by weak people so we’d feel sorry for them. You know, like the Holocaust.

  • cliff c

Sid was funny Imus needs him back on .Bernie called paul McCartney’s wife Stumpy the gold digger lighten up it is humor

  • Moonage

A man getting arrested for the second time drunk on his horse is funny. Someone’s hair falling out and losing a breast is not funny. For that matter, calling McCartney’s wife Stumpy isn’t fuuny. It’s less obnoxious than Sid’s comment, but it’s still not funny. I really do wish I was amused at really stupid callous comments, but, I’m not. Sid’s toast, and deservedly so.

  • rick jones

I notice that all the people expressing outrage over Sid’s remarks tend not to be fans of Imus to begin with. As a regular listener, I must say that Sid is an integral part of the show. Where’s the outrage over wars based on lies? Isn’t that more offensive? We’re worrying about some radio guy making a cruel remark?

  • StormWarning

I am an avid listener to IMUS and have been since September 11th when I realized that for morning shows, his was the only one (aside from the happy talk on the network AM shows) that had interesting and intelligent guests.

Rosenberg was many things, but wasn’t an asset to the show. And he made me cringe. And as a man of the Jewish religion, many of the things he said on the air made me embarassed.

Aside from anything else, Sid has resigned from the flagship station, WFAN…apparently and unfortunately, falling off the wagon again.

    http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/story/345770p-295169c.html
The mid-day talkie resigned from the radio station yesterday after failing to appear at Giants Stadium Sunday to be the host of the Giants pregame show. Rosenberg did not call FAN executives to alert them of his whereabouts or provide advance notice of his absence. Chris Carlin stepped in as a last-minute replacement.

Rosenberg, who spent a month in a substance abuse rehabilitation center in March, had not been heard from after making a personal appearance Saturday at a fantasy football seminar in Atlantic City.

    http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/story/346017p-295338c.html
Although there was no official word on whether his absence was due to a relapse, management reportedly gave him the choice of resigning or being fired.

    http://www.nypost.com/sports/52702.htm

IMO, as a very long listener to WFAN, Sid was never enjoyable to listen to. He was harder to listen to than Chris “Mad Dog” Russo who has to rank among the most ignorant (sounding) people in broadcast today.

  • jim

Does anyone know if Sid relapsed?
    Is he well? alive? happy?

    Where is he?

  • Moonage

I have actually looked a couple of times and can’t find anything credible on him. If anyone knows, I’d appreciate the update as well. I don’t wish him harm, he just doesn’t need to be on public radio.

  • Stormwarning

    Rosenberg updates:

Imus laments sports guy’s latest setback (Sept. 14, 2005)
    http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/story/346017p-295338c.html
Morning host Imus of WFAN (660 AM) yesterday expressed sympathy for and frustration with Sid Rosenberg, his former sports guy who resigned from WFAN Monday morning.

Rosenberg, who received treatment earlier this year for multiple gambling and substance addictions, made a paid appearance in Atlantic City Saturday, then failed to show up for his scheduled gig on the WFAN Giants pregame show Sunday.

Although there was no official word on whether his absence was due to a relapse, management reportedly gave him the choice of resigning or being fired.

“I know something about this [addiction],” said Imus, a veteran of alcohol and drug problems. “I tried to help him as much as I could. We all did. But in the end, you have to want to help yourself.”[More]

    http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/12779116.htm
On Thursday, 790 interviewed — but would not say if it would hire — controversial talk-show host Sid Rosenberg. Rosenberg reportedly received treatment earlier this year for gambling and substance addictions and resigned under pressure from WFAN in New York this month after failing to show up for work.

    ROSENBERG ON ROAD BACK
    http://www.nypost.com/sports/29531.htm
Sid Rosenberg, who was let go from WFAN after failing to show for work, is on the verge of resurfacing as a fill-in anchor on Miami’s all-sports station, 790 AM…

    +++++++

While I don’t wish him harm at all, and feel compassion for him and his addictions, the man is a ticking time bomb IMO. I’ve listened to IMUS since Sept. 11th. He was the worst part of that show, except when he got the crap beaten out of him by Bernie McGuirk last October.

  • Rubypearl

Chris Carlin is a good ol’guy, but Sid was sand in the Imus oyster, as are Bernie and Rob Bartlett. If Sid ever successfully wrestles his demons and learns when to curb his mouth, he could put the heft back in the Iman’s A.M. yack-fest.

  • ls

Sid’s a great sportscaster who was used and humiliated and was a pawn because he could be given the situations he got into. Did you ever think he was encouraged to make comments that were controversial?!

  • ole

I agree – I don’t believe for one minute that controversial comments were not only encouraged but expected.

  • Moonage

I don’t know Sid’s history or his arrangement with Imus. What I do know is what he said. If he was encouraged to jump off a cliff, and did, it wouldn’t make me feel any better knowing we was stupid enough to jump off a cliff. I don’t buy the “encouraged to trash cancer victims” scenario. Imus liked to push buttons, but I don’t know of an Imus history of being that trashy. I could be wrong, as I’ve said, I’m no fan of Imus either. Regardless of being encouraged or not, it was a horribly inappropriate and tasteless comment that should never have been said and was so unfunny I can’t see an experienced broadcaster like Imus encouraging it.

  • StormWarning

Moon. I have listened to IMUS since Sept.11th (not for the trash but for the interviews that he constantly and consistently has with politicians discussing key current issues). Anyone who believes that Rosenberg was encouraged to be trashy and specifically, to say what he did about Kylie Minogue’s breast cancer diagnosis, is as delusional as Rosenberg was.

In the “old” days (when I didn’t listen to him), IMUS was a lot more controversial then he is now. But that was then and this is now.

  • e

SIDNEY ROSENBURG is a very talented radio host, but his ego doesn’t let him remember that he is not nationally syndicated, or in N.Y. anymore. He is the best at getting strippers and hookers, smoking crack, cheating, making stories up as they go, has a childlike attitude w/ an i’m right you’re wrong approch. will desperatley and scumily drool and hit on any girl that moves. and talks so much crap out of his mouth, his breathe smells worse than Staten Island. He’s been alright so far but as a stereotypical New Yorker he will do or say something stupid to let his true 2 faced N.Y. colors show.

It is a shame that the people of South Florida have to Constantly be Bombarded With the N.Y. Losers like sid rosenberg. It is also a shame that we have Pathetic ex Crack smokin, Cable Stealin, loser New Yorkers who don’t think about the things they say or do. And only like to talkover everybody to hear themselves talk with their narrow minded ny way of life. but the losers like Sid keep forgetting that they are not in ny anymore. And it is a shame and a joke that these same people are representing South florida, but at the same time degrade everything and everyone in S. FLA. that is not NY related.

P.S. everytime you complain about the long lines, lousy fans, crappy people in FLA., scam artists, Dirtbags, freeloaders and howard stern wannabees. you are complaing about your fellow lousy NY’s.

as a true s. floridian please take all of the scum back to ny please. Starting With The Brown nosed, two faced, closet jets fan Sid Rosenberg!!!

Jeff Deforest and Boog Schiambe of (790 the ticket) on the other hand are 2 proffesional S. Florida Icons from N.Y. that i don’t mind having as representatives of S. Fla. At least these 2 can remeber where they are at and don’t act like pathetic little 10 year olds everytime somebody has a different opinion or say that they are wrong. They also do not spit out New Yorkerisms, or say that ny is better on a daily basis. They also don’t spit out “spit” everytime they say a word with the letter “T” in it. If i were President of the Miami Dolphins, Heat and Marlins i would ban sid rosenberg from everything having to do with them as he is the ultimate two faced bandwagon jumper. If things are bad he has no right to talk about our teams and community like he does. but when they are good he’ll jump on the band wagon and say he was there the whole time. what a 2 faced peice of N.Y. crap

And having Sid Rosenberg on the flagship station of the Dolphins is a bigger joke than the Florida elections. This guy reminds me of a closet jets fan, locked in the closet smoking CRACK, wishing that Girls like Vida Guerra would like him if he didn’t have money, radio show, and cocaine.

I wrote this to voice my opinions on ny’s in fla. i don’t think of all ny’s like this i respect the honest, normal, hardworking people anywhere, my stereotype is just against the ny’s like sid. unfortuanetley there are more ny’s down here like sid than normal ones. the ones that don’t act like they are gods’ gift to everything, the ones who don’t know it all, the ones you can talk to normally, the ones who don’t like to hear their stupid selves talk. the ones who don’t make a big scene if they don’t get something for free or discounted. bottomline the ones that treat you like a normal person and not a stepping stone. who won’t talk crap about the people or area they live in.

Unfortunatly Sid Rosenberg is not one of these normal people and always is and always will be an annoyiong, abnoxious, burdening, narrow minded, crack smoking, alcoholic NY’r

REMEMBER IF NY IS SO GREAT THEN GO BACK!!!

  • farthole

sid was just and is as funny and assholish as white trash american war monging mother pluggers need and deserve…america glorifies adultery…gays..use of alcohol…boner pills…perfection in a persons looks…spend to keep america number one…and do not let a foul mouthed jew say shitty things about our human condition…Bullshit..Sid is just another american asshole doing what he does best…offend the people that cannot take a joke !!

  • Moonage

You are obviously clueless to what Sid said that pissed me and others off. It wasn’t a joke. It was a hateful off-the-cuff remark. So, get a clue before attacking those offended by it. One of my all time favorite movies is possibly one of the most offensive movies ever made, so, your generalization is pure BS.

  • greig

Sid Rosenberg is an asshole! His comments about Venus and Serena Williams show that he is clearly a racist. How many chances will this jerk get?

  • Moonage

More than he deserved already. I ahve no clue why people keep thinking he’s funny or an asset to their company. I really don’t.
