Spongebob Gaypants?
I saw this headline on Fox, and really thought it was a joke. But, it wasn’t:
SpongeBob Squarepants is one of the popular children’s TV characters appearing in a new ‘tolerance’ video.Based on the 1970s hit song "We Are Family," the video will be distributed to public and private elementary schools nationwide March 11, along with lesson plans for teachers, points out the American Family Association.
The distribution, sponsored by FedEx, will coincide with the video’s broadcast March 11 on Nickelodeon, PBS, and the Disney Channel in celebration of the proposed National We Are Family Day.
AFA researcher Ed Vitagliano sees the project as an "open door" to a secondary discussion of homosexuality, noting the the foundation has a "tolerance pledge" on its website that children and others are encouraged to sign, which includes sexual orientation.
Sometimes I just have to scratch my head over how paranoid people can get. Come on Dobson, this is ludicrous! I mean, it’s beyond stupid, it’s NUTS! How can a sponge with no penis be a subversive symbol promoting homosexuality? Put the character in the perspective of what it is. Small kids hold hands. They’re not told that’s a bad thing till they’re older. Small boys hold hands as well. It’s not until a person starts understanding sex that it becomes an issue. Little boys will kiss each other, hold hands, and touch each other down there. When they do, it means he has peed in his diaper. They don’t even know that there is any special difference between men and women. So how in the hell can they be learning about homosexuality? Sheez Dobson, you’ve lost it if you see homosexuality in a purple dinosaur and a sponge. I can’t believe I’m telling a doctor this stuff.
Why would anyone care if a sponge was gay? And so what if he is?

This is kind of like the NAACP, and some other special interest groups, just trying to gain attention and start a non debate aimed at degrading a particular section of people. SpongeBob is the popular character now so it is attacked. Did you hear the one about the Lone Ranger and Tonto being gay?… sheesh!
I never kept up with The Lone Ranger. But, if there was a rumor him and Tonto were gay, I’m sure Charles Dobson knew about it.
If I had to bet, it was Hopalong Cassidy andhis horse, or Gene Autry and the guy who drove “Nellie Belle” who were gay, but never the Lone Ranger and Tonto!
Were Roy Rogers and Dale Evans really married, or was it a “marriage of convenience?”

LOL! I forgot that Moon was younger than us and probably missed the old western heros (too bad). The singing cowboys were hardly controversial, it was simply the bad guys vs the good guys… simpler times… sigh.
What did “kemosabi” mean anyway?
I actually grew up with some of the cowboy shows, I was just into stuff like Star Trek. At that time, I really didn’t watch much tv at all. Now THAT was a simpler time!
